A Ruinous Realm

Greetings, welcome to A Ruinous Realm. We are a small server based on an old map, which has not been reset since creation in 2011 or expanded since 2013. The map itself features ancient ruins that dot the landscape, hints to a history long forgotten and events of years past.

Our server is based on light rp interacting with factions. Factions typically claim a small town, city, or base, and those locations tend to see events occur from the staff. An example for an event would be the Age of Darkness, which occurred around 2011 to 2012. The Age started with the city around spawn being destroyed by a Rift, a tear through reality that brings tendrils of netherack and fire. Rifts can be destroyed or fought off, but if the defender fails to destroy the rift core in time, it turns into a Super Rift and annihilates the city.

The age was marked by a lack of daylight, the sun didn't rise for nearly a year. The entire world was covered in thick bands of snow, up to six blocks deep in some places. Existing on the surface without leather armor would result in freezing damage unless players were in close proximity to fire or another heat source. As a result, most players moved underground, with above ground structures being buried under snow and attacked by many hundreds of mobs. Mob strength was buffed significantly, and zombies could chew through cobblestone and other blocks if left alone for lengthy periods of time.

Other ages revolved around worship of the Gods. Now long dead, the gods used to physically appear in person and grant wishes, rewards, or smite foes. The gods were opposed to each other, and worshippers of them would often be directed to attack forces of the other gods. This of course all went away as the Gods themselves lost power during the Age of Darkness, however some influence of the Gods still exist.

The current age is one of rebuilding and resettling the land after a lengthy downtime, as such you'll notice that the server population is low. A deep darkness is brewing however, and the forces of evil have yet to be fully contained. The events of the story and server are of course dependent on player actions and reactions to events as they happen. Constant warfare and worshipping of Terth, the dark lord, may yet bring another Darkness to the world, though even without that explicit support, Terth may yet unwittingly influence others to serve him.
